Windscreens and screens are designed by taking into account several different factors, including the type of vehicle, its primary use, the need for increased protection, or, in the case of sport screens, a focus on performance. The development process considers aerodynamic requirements, the reduction of turbulence, and, not least, aesthetic appearance.
Despite careful design, subjective factors such as rider height and riding position can influence the user experience, making it personal and not fully reproducible.
A tinted windscreen can be used on the road only if it complies with the transparency limits required by ECE/UN Regulation No. 43.
Windscreens sold by GIVI meet these requirements and can be used on public roads.
The GIVI range includes different types of windscreens and screens: some require a specific fitting kit, some include it in the package, and others replace the original screen using the existing mounting hardware on the motorcycle/scooter.
To obtain the correct information, please refer to the section dedicated to your vehicle model (“My Motorcycle ”); it will clearly indicate whether the product replaces the original or requires a specific fitting kit.
It is not possible to use mounting kits other than those specifically indicated.
To clean the windscreen, use water (preferably lukewarm) and neutral soap or specific antistatic cleaners (avoid dry cleaning).
Never use alcohol or products containing it, acetone, benzene, or aggressive glass cleaners.
Use microfiber cloths, making circular movements and avoiding excessive pressure. For drying, gently dab with a dry microfiber cloth.
If there are small scratches, they may be reduced by using a fine-grain polish and a foam pad attached to a drill or screwdriver, gently rotating it over the damaged area. Then clean with water and neutral soap and dry with a microfiber cloth.
For uniform results, it is recommended to treat the entire surface.
In general, yes: a damaged windscreen or screen should be replaced, with some distinctions depending on the type and extent of the damage.
Replacement is necessary when the damage affects visibility, such as cracks in the viewing area, surface opacity, or deep scratches that distort vision. A compromised windscreen may be dangerous and non-compliant with regulations.
If the damage is only cosmetic and does not affect visibility (e.g. minor marks or light surface dullness), it may be possible to restore it using polishes for plexiglass/polycarbonate and dedicated scratch-removal products.
Prolonged exposure to sunlight can be harmful to windscreens made of PMMA (acrylic) or polycarbonate.
To prevent material aging, use a motorcycle cover or a specific screen cover when parking in direct sunlight. This also helps prevent the “lens effect,” where sunlight passing through the curved surface can concentrate and damage the motorcycle’s instrumentation.
This lens effect is a known physical phenomenon: a curved transparent surface can concentrate sunlight into a focal point, generating high temperatures and causing damage such as paint blistering, discoloration, plastic deformation, LCD damage, or even deformation of the windscreen itself.
Tinted or opaque screens can reduce this effect but do not eliminate it completely.

GIVI recommends a maximum speed of 130 km/h for all windscreens and screens. GIVI cannot be held responsible for any damage resulting from use at higher speeds.
For windscreens/screens equipped with a specific fitting kit, it is possible to purchase replacement hardware kits.
If the windscreen/screen replaces the original, spare parts must be requested from the motorcycle manufacturer, as installation uses the original vehicle components.
