Top Cases

There are two types of top cases: Monokey and Monolock.

Monolock top cases, compared to Monokey, are designed for urban use on scooters or small-displacement motorcycles; the load limit for these top cases is 3 kg. Monokey top cases, on the other hand, have a more robust structure and allow up to 10 kg of luggage to be carried inside.

Monokey Range

• Robust construction
• Designed to carry up to 10 kg – maximum load capacity: 10 kg
• The system allows both opening and releasing the case with a single key.
• Many Monokey top cases feature more advanced solutions compared to Monolock models.
• The sturdy construction allows, in most plastic Monokey top cases, the installation of an additional rack on the lid, enabling extra luggage to be carried externally.
• Includes a range of top cases with capacities from 30 to 58 liters.
• For many motorcycle models, customers can choose between different Monokey plates that vary in design and materials (aluminum or fiberglass-reinforced nylon); for many other models (mainly high-end), specific aluminum Monokey plates are available designed for that particular bike (SRA____ codes).
• Wide range of optional accessories depending on the model (backrests, inner bags, additional cargo bags, racks, brake light kits, internal elastic nets, document holder pocket, courtesy light, etc.)

Monolock top cases

• Simpler and lighter.
• Designed to carry up to 3 kg of luggage.
• Ideal for scooters and small to medium displacement motorcycles.
• The system allows both opening and releasing the case with a single key (except for models ALP44 Alpina and B38 Bernina, which have an internal release lever)
• Includes a range of top cases from 29 to 47 liters capacity.
• For all models, an optional backrest can be purchased (if not already standard)
• Standard traditional lock on all models, with the option (on some models) to upgrade to the Security Lock system, available as an accessory.
• Mounting plate kit included (to be checked whether compatible with the standard luggage rack or if a specific GIVI fitting kit is required).

Monokey and Monolock mounting systems have remained unchanged over time, making it possible to use even very old top cases on current Monokey or Monolock plates.

With Monokey top cases, it is possible to carry up to 10 kg of luggage inside. However, it is necessary to check whether the specific mounting kit for the motorcycle has a lower load limit.

If the top case is used on a motorcycle for which no specific mounting kit is available and the universal Monokey plate E251 is fitted directly onto the vehicle’s original luggage rack, it is necessary to verify the load limit specified by the manufacturer for that rack.

Many Monokey top cases also allow luggage to be secured on top of the lid; this must not exceed 3 kg, and the total combined weight of the luggage inside the case and on top of the lid must not exceed 10 kg.

With Monolock top cases, it is possible to carry up to 3 kg of luggage inside..

GIVI currently offers a lock kit specifically designed for BMW keys for all bags and cases equipped with the Smart Security Lock system.

No, it depends on the type of helmet and the specific top case, as not only capacity but also the shape influences storage. Please check the specifications of the top case to see which types and sizes of helmets it can accommodate.

Many Monokey top cases also allow luggage to be secured on top of the lid. This load must not exceed 3 kg, and the total combined weight of the luggage inside the top case and on the lid must not exceed 10 kg.

For transporting pets, GIVI has designed a top bag with MONOKEY attachment specifically for pet transport (maximum load 5 kg).

GIVI recommends not exceeding 120 km/h. GIVI cannot be held responsible for any damage resulting from use at higher speeds.

All top cases are designed to provide a high level of theft protection. On most models, if not already included as standard, the Smart Security Lock can be installed as an optional feature, providing a premium level of security.

GIVI top cases are tested both on the road under various surface and weather conditions, and in our laboratories using shakers capable of transmitting accelerations of up to 52g to the top case. Structural tests are designed to ensure product durability under the most demanding conditions and maximum load.

Rigorous tests are also carried out for UV resistance, water resistance, corrosion resistance, resistance to extreme temperatures (hot and cold), packaging durability, passenger ergonomics on various motorcycle models, and many other tests that may vary depending on the specific product being examined.

Monokey and Monokey Cam Side top cases and side cases are made from 5754 aluminum with a thickness of 1.5 mm.

The Monolock ALP44 Alpina top case is made from 5754 aluminum with a thickness of 1.2 mm.

The plastic material used varies depending on the top case and the component, based on whether specific aesthetic qualities are required (e.g. covers or reflectors) or particular mechanical strength. In all cases, GIVI materials are selected following careful design and rigorous validation testing before mass production.

Aesthetic appearance, mechanical strength, impact resistance, and UV resistance are evaluated (aligned with the standards applied to top-of-the-range models from major motorcycle manufacturers), to ensure a durable and high-performing product over time. Incoming quality control ensures consistency of the raw materials used.

GIVI guarantees a water resistance level equivalent to heavy rain. In particular, the cases are tested using special equipment that simulates rainfall with a flow rate greater than 20 liters per minute. This flow hits the top case at varying angles to replicate a wide range of real-world conditions during use.

Smooth black covers are made of ABS and can be easily painted by a body shop.

The recommended painting process is primer, color base coat, and a clear coat (glossy or matte depending on the desired finish).

We do not recommend painting textured parts, as the result would not be optimal. This is both because many parts are made of technopolymers that are not well suited for painting, and due to the final aesthetic outcome.
